Jay W. Schmelter - Managing Director
Mr. Schmelter is a managing director and founder of RiverVest Venture Partners. He has extensive experience in life sciences venture capital and finance. He is a member of the board of directors of TissueLink Medical, Inc. and NexRay, Inc., both RiverVest portfolio companies, as well as a director of CardioClasp, Inc. and Norton Healthcare Ventures, a medical device incubator.
Previously, Mr. Schmelter was a principal at Crescendo Ventures, a global venture capital fund, with offices in Palo Alto, Minneapolis and London, where he led investments in six life science companies and served on the boards of directors of Neuron Therapeutics, Inc., Percardia, Inc., and EluSys Therapeutics, Inc. Before that, he was a medical devices research analyst at Piper Jaffray, Inc., with research coverage focused on cardiovascular-related medical device stocks. He also was a marketing manager for Medtronic, Inc. and a senior financial analyst with General Mills, Inc., involved in acquisitions and divestitures.
Mr. Schmelter received his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and his B.A. in accounting from Michigan State University.
